Family is everything! My family has played a big role in my military career whether it be from everyday work in garrison or during deployment.
Every day work can be stressful. Lucky for me, I come home to my beautiful family. If I did not have them, I honestly don’t know where I would be right now. My wife played a big role to get me where I am today.
If it weren’t for her holding down the home front while I’m working late or while I’m in training, I could not have gone this far and achieved my goals.
A lot of people forget that families of military personnel are serving too. They sacrifice so much. I have missed my daughter’s first day of Kindergarten, a Halloween, a Thanksgiving, a Christmas and a New Year’s.
When I was deployed for 9 months, I was sent to places that had little to no necessities, sometimes only MRE’s (Meals Ready to Eat). My wife and my other family members would send me care packages just so I could get by.
My wife was known at the post office on a first name basis. She would send me care packages every other day, which would include all my favorite snacks, shampoo, soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes, and the best part…pictures of my family so I wouldn’t miss a thing and feel like I was right there with them.
If it weren’t for those care packages, I probably wouldn’t have got through my deployment. It kept me going, knowing that my family was waiting for me. It helped me to be stronger everyday.
When I came home from deployment, my daughter wouldn’t let me go. It was bittersweet. It made me never want to leave again.
I never understood what people in the military and their families go through. It is a big sacrifice and without the support of family, It would be a really tough career.
We are still holding strong and we know that our bond can get us through anything.
I hope my post made you see how big of a role family plays and how important they are, because without family, some things are impossible.
